By Collins Amanga, July 24, 2022Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama was in action on Sunday 24 July 2022 as his side Montreal Impact defeated Wayne Rooney’s DC United in a Major League Soccer match at Audi Field in Washington.
Wanyama started in the midfield as Montreal recorded a fifth victory on the road this season, a club record in MLS. DC United who recently appointed former Manchester United legend Rooney as their Head coach had Chad Ashton on the touchline as Rooney is still working to acquire his visa.

Romell Quioto netted a brace, in the match with his first goal coming just 44 seconds into the match. He doubled the lead in the 35th minute of the game.
Coach pleased
Steve Birnbaum scored the home side’s only goal in the 55th minute.
Montreal Impact coach Wilfried Nancy said: “I am happy that we won such a difficult match. We could have finished off in the first half. I love the resilience and courage of the players. The weather was difficult, but the boys stuck to their game plan and made deep runs. Tonight, I enjoyed the team’s unity.”
“I am quite pleased with my away victory record. It is one of our goals to go as far as possible in writing the Club’s history. The path is still lengthy, but we are not on fire. I am quite pleased with what this young bunch has accomplished.” he concluded.

Wanyama has made 19 appearances for Montreal Impact in the Major League Soccer in 2022 and has bagged one assist.
The midfielder parted ways with Tottenham in March 2020 with Tottenham reaching an agreement with Montreal over the player.
Wnayama’s debut
Wanyama made his competitive debut for Montreal at Stade Olympique in the first leg quarterfinal of the CONCACAF Champions League where he was named in manager Thierry Henry’s starting side.
Wanyama provided an assist to Saphir Taïder – who was once a teammate at Southampton in 2014. Despite his assist, they lost 2-1 to Honduran champions C.D. Olimpia.

The win has seen Montreal rise to third on the standings with 35 points after 21 matches played in the Eastern Conference. The side has bagged 11 wins, two draws and eight defeats.
