Victor Wanyama graces CHAN trophy reveal
By Luke Oluoch, August 1, 2025Football icon Victor Wanyama was honoured to be among the football stars who presided over the launch of a new trophy for the 2024 African Nations Championship games.
The Kenyan skipper joined fellow football greats Mrisho Ngassa of Tanzania and Uganda’s Denis Onyango for the event organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of the scheduled kickoff dates this Saturday, August 2, 2025, across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The new trophy will be awarded to the winners of the 8th edition of the tournament after the finals that will be staged at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium, ON Saturday, August 30, 2025.

“Football Royalty, Victor Wanyama, Denis Onyango, and Mrisho Ngasa unite for the epic reveal of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), CAF said.
During the colourful unveiling of the Pamoja Bid, CAF affirmed that the pristine silver and gold trophy is a symbol of passion, unity, and African pride.
“The new trophy is more than silver and gold. It’s a symbol of passion, unity, and African pride,” CAF said.

Dennis Onyango, the long-serving keeper and skipper of the Cranes team, expressed his pleasure after joining the retired legends for the unveiling.

The reveal of the trophy comes just after Dennis Oliech was unveiled on Friday, August 1, 2025, as the official brand ambassador for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The former Kenyan talisman was recognised for the role in a ceremony held in Nairobi that brought together Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, and other senior officials.
Oliech, a former Harambee Stars striker and one of Kenya’s most decorated footballers, was hailed as a beacon of inspiration for his role in putting the country on the global football map.
“Dennis Oliech is a symbol of honour for Kenya’s football heritage,” FKF President Hussein Mohammed said, who noted that the appointment aligns with his promise to ensure football legends are absorbed into the local ecosystem to aid in youth development and the sport’s overall growth.
