Victor Omune: Winning Mashemeji Derby will be a great gift to Ingwe supporters
By Joel Masibo, December 5, 2025AFC Leopards captain Victor Omune has stated that a win against arch rivals Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji Derby scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium will be a great gift for Ingwe faithful.
Leopards have been struggling with consistency since the new Football Kenya Federation Premier League started in September 2025. Omune was on the score sheet last when AFC Leopards came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks in their last league fixture before the 98th edition of the Mashemeji Derby.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, December 5, 2025, Omune said there is no perfect time to bounce back to the winning ways for AFC Leopards than by grabbing the bragging rights of the Mashemeji Derby at the expense of record champions, Gor Mahia.

Perfect gift
“I believe our fans deserve this win (derby) and there is no greater gift to them apart from winning this derby game on Sunday,” Omune said.
The forward further added that everyone at AFC Leopards is motivated and looking forward to giving their best on Sunday, December 7, 2025. He also said it could give the team’s technical bench a chance to come up with the starting XI, as all players in the camp are motivated.
”The team is ready for the Derby, and we also believe it is high time we get back to our winning ways. There is no perfect game to bounce back from than a Derby. Everyone is looking forward to it, I believe it will be a challenge for the technical bench to choose the starting team. We have gone three matches without a win, so it is a game that we are going to look for points,” he said.
Kinyanjui’s special moment

Speaking on the Derby as well, winger James Kinyanjui has described the encounter as a defining career moment. K’Ogalo will host Ingwe in a fierce clash with bragging rights at stake. However, the encounter will not just be any other fixture for the former KCB FC winger.
So far, Kinyanjui has delivered four assists for AFC Leopards. In the process, the winger has also scored one goal, against Mathare United, in the Sportpesa League.
“It will be a big step in my career, it has never happened in my entire footballing career, it will be my first time playing in the derby, I feel proud, and I’m waiting for the moment,” Kinyanjui said.
