Ulinzi Sharks dominate weekend fixtures as Boomerang struggle
Ulinzi Sharks handball team was on form at the weekend picking three wins on the trot during the Kenya Handball Federation-National League games played at the Nyayo Stadium.
The soldiers’ ladies’ team had three huge convincing victories to move second in the standings with 30 points off 17 matches. Thus far, the Sharks have lost only twice but won 15 times in the season with a goal difference of +464 and a four-point difference in the standings. Ulinzi’s first game saw them wallop Rising Star 59-11 with all save for one outfield player on the score sheet.
Sarah Wasike led the charge with 11 goals as the home team raced to a 28-06 lead at half-time. Other important scores came through the trio of Carolyne Temko, Dorothy Machuma and Euphrasia Mukhasia who all had six goals. Medina Kerubo, Diana Karani and Marjorie Okwaku also posted five goals to help with the heavy defeat.
On the other end, Sheila Sheila Atsao was the best scorer for Rising Stars with four goals with Shamira Raina with three goals. In the other match, Ulinzi saw off Net Navigators 36-15 and once again Sarah Wasike top-scored with 12 goals.
She was ably assisted in the cause by Medina Kerubo who had seven goals. Navigators had their cake through Nancy Jepchumba with four goals with Sylvia Adhiambo on three.
The half-time scores were 19-07 in favour of the Sharks who exploited spaces to their advantage given their speed in transition and attack. In the other duel, Sharks went a step further with a 61-11 demolition of New Hope with Sarah Wasike once again showing her mettle firing in 16 goals helped again by Medina Kerubo who had 11.
In the Men’s Division, Boomerang Handball Team struggled a lot losing all three matches played at the weekend. On Saturday, the team lost 34-25 to Black Mamba with the duo of Victor Luvale and Paul Ondara both contributing nine goals apiece.
The game had moments with both sides pushing when the opportunity arose. At the break, Mamba led 18-11 against Boomerang who made some adjustments in the second stanza of the game.
