Uganda Cranes defender joins Nairobi United
By Kenneth Mwenda, January 5, 2026Nairobi United FC has strengthened its squad with the signing of Uganda Cranes defender Mustafa Kizza.
The 26-year-old left-back joins the Kenyan Premier League side from Uganda’s NEC FC as the club aims to improve its performance in domestic and continental competitions.
Kizza, born in 1999, has built a solid reputation both domestically and internationally. He began his career at Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC), making his senior debut in March 2017 against Bright Stars FC.
He scored his first goal for KCCA in November 2017 against Police FC and quickly became a key figure in the team. Over several seasons, Kizza contributed goals and assists, helping KCCA win the Uganda Premier League. He also featured in CAF competitions, providing several assists in the 2018–2019 season across league and cup matches.

In 2020, Kizza moved abroad, signing with Montreal Impact (now CF Montréal) in Canada. During his time there, he played alongside Kenya international Victor Wanyama.
After leaving Montréal in 2021, he joined Portuguese side F.C. Arouca in the Primeira Liga before returning to Uganda with Express FC and Telecom Egypt SC in 2024.

In July 2025, he signed a two-year deal with NEC FC, contributing to their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Internationally, Kizza has represented Uganda at under-20 and under-23 levels. He made his senior national team debut in June 2019 against Lesotho at the COSAFA Cup. Known for his pace, defensive awareness, and ability to support attacks, Kizza brings experience and versatility to Nairobi United’s defence.
Midfield and attack strengthened
Nairobi United has also bolstered its midfield and attack with the signings of Roy Okal and John Njuguna. Okal arrives from Sofapaka FC, where he established himself as a reliable central midfielder. He will anchor the midfield, distribute the ball, and provide defensive cover, bringing stability to a team that has struggled for consistency this season.
Njuguna, an attacking midfielder and winger, joins from Tusker FC. He is known for his pace, crossing ability, and flair on the wings. The club aims to use his speed and versatility to stretch opponents and create space for central players like Okal.
These signings come as Nairobi United looks to improve its results after returning to the Premier League following promotion from the National Super League. The club sits ninth in the table after a weekend win over Shabana and now faces a demanding schedule, including the CAF Confederation Cup.
