Tusker’s new boys begin life at Ruaraka as players report for preseason

Tusker FC, on Monday, July 28, 2025, joined a growing list of Football Kenya Federation Premier League teams that have kicked off their preparations for the new season.

Charles Okere’s team, who ended the season in fourth, got a feel of the pitch at their training base at Ruaraka, Nairobi.

Among those present were four of the club’s recent new signings: striker Eric Kapaito, defenders Vincent Otieno and Eugene Ikutwa, and winger Yakeen Muteheli.

The club has been on a recruitment drive following a tough season that saw the club run close but ultimately fail in their bid to clinch the league title, which went to Kenya Police FC.

Released

Following the conclusion of the campaign, the club parted ways with nine players following the expiry of their contracts as part of a squad overhaul before the new FKF Premier League season. The released players include John Byamukama, James Kibande, Luke Namanda, David Odoyo, Boban Zirintusa, Deogratious Ojok, Mike Oduor, and Lawrence Luvanda.

Additionally, defender Yussuf Mainge left the club after his loan spell from Kenya Police FC ended.

Ranking among one of the country’s most decorated football clubs, the former champions will be out to change of fortunes having played second fiddle to record champions Gor Mahia and most recently to new champions Kenya Police FC.

Speaking during his unveiling at Ruaraka Grounds on Friday, July 25, 2025, former KPL Golden Boot winner Eric Kapaito, 28, revealed his excitement about returning to the Brewers fold.

“Tusker FC is home, and I feel that I have returned to a place where I felt comfortable, happy and loved. I have a deep connection with this club and the fans, and I’m hungry to help bring more trophies to this great team. I’m back, focused, and ready to give my all,” said Kapaito.

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere welcomed his return, noting how vital his presence will be in the upcoming campaign.

“Eric brings a lot to this team: goals, leadership, and a winning mentality. He knows our system, and his experience will be vital both on and off the pitch. Last season we struggled a bit in the second leg because we didn’t have enough firepower up front, and his return gives us that cushion,” said Okere.

The former champions add to the list of top-flight clubs to have resumed preseason ahead of the new season set to kick off after the CHAN 2024 games.

Kakamega Homeboyz, Bidco United Police FC, and KCB, under the new boss Robert Matano, have all kicked off their preparations for the new season.
