Tusker coach Robert Matano has conceded his side failed to beat Gor Mahia to the FKF Premier League title because “we slept when it mattered most during the title run.”

The Brewers missed out on their 14th league crown on the final day of the season after K’Ogalo defeated Nairobi City Stars 4-1 at Kasarani to lift a record-extending 20th title in their history.

Though the Brewers won their final game of the season 4-0 against relegated Vihiga Bullets at Mumias Complex, Gor Mahia were crowned the champions after amassing 70 points, one more than the Brewers.

Matano has admitted Tusker’s troubles started in the final three fixtures of the campaign – especially against Wazito FC and Posta Rangers, adding the outcome from the two dented their hopes to win the title.

The Brewers lost 2-1 against Wazito away in Muhoroni and dropped further vital points in a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers giving Gor Mahia the chance to run away with the trophy.
“We simply slept in the final bend of the season when it really mattered most.”
