Tusker humble AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards fell to a 1-0 defeat to Tusker during their Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

This is Ingwe’s first defeat after enjoying a 10-match unbeaten run, and it is a welcome victory for Tusker, who are hoping to keep closing in on Gor Mahia at the top.

The Brewers scored the all-important goal in the 34th minute after Leopards’ backline failed to have superb communication during an attack.

Mike Oduor and John Njuguna combined well to give Tusker the lead. Njuguna, after beating Randy Bakari and Arthur Gitego, found a pocket of space to shoot, and the ball bounced off Bakari as it rolled into the net.

Gitego, whose life at the Den has started rather brightly, could have equalised for Ingwe almost immediately, but the Rwandan failed to collect the ball put in his way by Hassan Beja.

Another chance to restore parity came in the 58th minute when Gitego, again, came close to finding the back of the net, but Tusker’s goalkeeper Brian Opondo made a save.

Collins Otieno was in the right position to score the second for Tusker, but this time around, AFC Leopards were saved by their goalkeeper, Levis Opiyo, who pulled off a good save.

The win means Tusker have reduced the gap between them and Gor Mahia to seven points, while Ingwe’s unbeaten run in the second round comes to an end.

Stars fall

At the Mumias Sports Complex, Kakamega Homeboyz emerged as 2-0 winners against Ulinzi Stars.

The home team took the lead just before the half break when Hillary Otieno scored.

An equaliser for the Soldiers almost came six minutes after the second half had started, but Javan Omondi was denied by James Ssetuba.

The second goal for Homeboyz was recorded in the 61st minute when Brian Chala found the back of the net, with Eston Omengo providing the assist.
