Tusker FC looks to build on last season’s success with a major squad overhaul
Tusker FC have shown their big intent to secure their 13th title in the new campaign with the unveiling of 11 new players on Tuesday.
The Brewers have made significant additions with a focus on strengthening both defense and attack, aiming to balance the team’s prospects for the season ahead.
According to the technical bench, the season looks promising.
Speaking at Ruaraka Grounds after the players’ presentation, interim head coachCharles Okere rallied his team to be ready for battle.
“This is our year and we are prepared to go for the title. We have had a good preseason in Uganda and have seen what we are capable of. With two weeks to go ahead of the new season, we will continue to work as we go for the target. I thank the management and technical bench for their commitment and support and we hope to see success in this campaign,” noted Okere (CA license holder), who previously coached Harambee Starlets.
Captain Charles Momanyi believes the team needs to maintain intensity from start to finish.
The Gor Mahia center-back observed: “We have picked lessons on how not to be on the wheel until the end It has been frustrating but we move This season is different and we have talked as a team. We have new players and new identity. We might have lost some good players but the incoming replacements are up to task. I hope we can just believe and go all out for duty. It is about the first point and the last one. The season will be difficult but we are ready for battle nonetheless.”
Notable new signings include former Bandari shot-stopper Joseph Ochuka, ex-Police FC full-back Yusuf Mainge, Muranga Seal attacking midfielder Eric Balecho, and former Muhoroni Youth defender Alex Onchwari, among others.
Club Chairman Charles Gacheru has urged the Football Kenya Federation to address venue issues, which have been problematic.
“It is still a challenge for teams to secure pitches, so we urge FKF to assist with that. Improvements in officiating are also crucial. This season, we want to focus on player welfare as a priority. We would like to see our players grow and develop. We are happy with the fixtures already released and hope there will be no interruptions.”
Meanwhile, Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) MD Mark Ocitti has promised continued support for the team.
“Tusker FC is a beacon of hope, and as KBL, we are committed to sports. We have seen great progress in this team, and we can only get better. We have acquired new players who should help us clinch the title. We will be in the stands cheering for the boys.”
