Tusker FC have an opportunity to climb to the summit of the FKF Premier League table when they take on Nairobi City Stars on April 20, 2025, following a dramatic weekend that has intensified the race for the title.

Heading into the Sunday afternoon clash at Kenyatta Stadium, the brewers sit second on the log with 48 points from 26 matches, just one behind league leaders Kenya Police FC, who stumbled on Friday, April 18, 2025, with a 1-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars.

Police had hoped to extend their lead but were undone by a 46th-minute goal from Boniface Muchiri, leaving the door wide open for their closest challengers.

Game in hand

Despite a mixed run of form, with three draws in their last five matches, the brewers remain firmly in the title race and will look to take full advantage of their game in hand.

A win on Sunday would see them displace Police from the top and boost their quest for a first league title since 2022.

However, the path to glory is far from straightforward.

With eight games remaining, Tusker face a tough run-in, including matches against AFC Leopards, Sofapaka, Mathare United, and Kakamega Homeboyz — all sides capable of upsetting their momentum.

Gor Mahia’s stumble

Gor Mahia, meanwhile, were left ruing missed opportunities after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Joshua Onyango had put Gor ahead in the 67th minute with a header from an Austine Odhiambo free-kick, capping off a dominant display by the visitors.

Gor controlled much of the game and looked on course for victory, but defensive lapses in the final moments saw Douglas Koech capitalise on a clever pass from Edward Omondi to earn Sofapaka a share of the spoils.

The result leaves Gor in third place with 47 points from 26 matches, two behind Police and one behind Tusker, who now have the advantage.

Sunday fixtures

Other matches include Murang’a Seal hosting Kariobangi Sharks at SportPesa Arena, Bidco United playing Mathare United in the early kickoff at Kenyatta Stadium, and FC Talanta facing Shabana FC at Dandora Stadium.
