Tusker confirm departure of Monyi, Macharia after contracts expiration
By Joel Sang, July 28, 2023Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Tusker have confirmed the departures of Jackson Macharia and Kevin Monyi.
The two leave the Ruaraka club after the expiration of their contracts, and this comes with a number of players already linked with the local giants in the current transfer window.
Macharia is one of the longest-serving players at Tusker, and the former Premier League champions have paid a glowing tribute to the midfield maestro.
Farewell
“A long-time servant of the club, diligent, hardworking, and a motivating senior figure in the team, Jackson Macharia, leaves the club. A legend in his own right, we thank Masha for his time; seven years and nine months. All the best in your new adventure, ‘dreader’,” Tusker said as they confirmed the exit of Macharia.
As he leaves, Macharia has recalled his best moments with the Brewers and singled out those who have been key to his career development at the club.
“I want to thank the team, from the brand, management, coaches, and my fellow players, for the past seven years I have been at Tusker FC. I am who I am today because of this club, and I want to sincerely pay gratitude where it is due.
“I have enjoyed every moment, from the 2016 double season to our league-winning run in 2021. It is time for me to seek a fresh challenge, and I want to wish the club all the best in the new season. Thank you, Tusker FC, forever in my heart,” Macharia said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Tusker also confirmed Kevin Monyi has left after the expiration of his contract. The Brewers signed the centre-back from Western Stima, now defunct, and went on to win the Premier League title with Monyi marshalling the backline.
“Kevin Monyi will depart the club at the expiration of his contract. Akang’o has been a diligent servant to the club, and we are entirely thankful for his services. All the best in your new adventure, Monyi,” the club stated.

More exits
Monyi’s exit comes at a time when another defender is reported to be on the verge of leaving. Charles Momanyi has been linked with a transfer to Shabana, the newly-promoted side to the Premier League.
Apart from Macharia and Monyi, Humphrey Mieno, equally a long-serving midfielder, Shami Mwinyi, Michael Wanjala, David Majak, and Tanzanian defender Kalos Kirenge are all reported to have left the club.
Mieno is one of the most experienced midfielders in the country, having also played for Mahakama, KCB, Sofapaka, Azam FC, St. George FC, Club Africain, Gor Mahia, and AFC Leopards before.
Goalkeeper Wanjala is understood to have signed a two-year deal with Posta Rangers.
Tusker, the 12th-time Premier League champions, are understood to have signed James Kibande from Police FC and are said to have reached an agreement with Nzoia Sugar’s Joseph Mwangi.
