Tong IL Moo-Do championship postponed due to lack of funding
A cloud of uncertainty hangs on this year’s 11th edition of the Mombasa Tong IL Moo-Do International championship after the government reportedly delayed funding for the event that was expected to start this morning at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa.
Federation chiefs yesterday announced the postponement to a later date next week until it gets full preparation until the government releases funding.
Kenya Tong IL Moo-Do federation president master Clarence Mwakio said the ministry of sports which had pledged to support the event with over Sh 100 million delayed to release the funds.
He said foreign technical officials had not arrived including some foreign teams thus forcing it to be postponed.
He said they will utilize the two days for training.
“As of yesterday we had not received the funding but we are in the talks with the ministry,we have been assured of support,but due to delayed finding we have postpone and agreed to move forward with two days to start 17 th of December and 18th this month,this will give us opportunity to train,” said Mwakio.
Five Foreign teams India,DRC ,Japan and Paraguay had arrived by Thursdays afternoon.The event Scheduled to begin early next week after all teams arrive in Mombasa.
“The event in one or another way will be disorganized but as a federation we have to go with the situation,as you know many Kenyans had anticipated to come but now there are disruptions,”said Mwaki
Mwakio said Nigeria,Angola,Ivory coast Philippines will be arriving on Friday.He said no hitches in travelling as the postponement has only affected team preparation,”he added.
“We appreciate the support we have been given,we are sure that before the sport ends,the government will have released the funds,team kenya is high spirited andits the high time the government to expedite the release of the funding.,”said Mwakio.
World federation president said the event is a way of bringing peace and unity in the world.
The sport also helps players get physically fit.
He regretted that Kenyan federation is struggling to make the event a success and asked the Kenyan government to expedite the release of the funds.
