Team Kenya bags gold in volleyball with victory over EALA

Kenyan parliamentarians have emerged as the winners of the men’s volleyball category after defeating the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) team 3–0.

The feat achieved on Saturday, December 13, 2025, saw the team seal an unbeaten streak in the campaign at the regional parliamentary tournament. and asserting their dominance throughout the competition.

The Kenyans were in cruise control, bagging the opening set 25–14 with little resistance.

Wrapped up

The team, however, worked for their victory in the second as the EALA team threatened with an early momentum and led through the opening exchanges.

Kenya responded with sharper serves and tighter coordination, overturning the deficit and closing the set 25–16.

The third followed a similar script to the first. Kenya dictated play, limited EALA’s options on the offfense and wrapped up the match with another 25–16 win.

Standout out performer

Alfred Mutai emerged as Kenya’s standout performer. His powerful spikes repeatedly broke through their rival’s defense and shifted momentum at critical moments across the three straight sets.

The victory was a continuation of the team’s fine form in the discipline, coming after similar feats against Uganda and Rwanda.

The team

The team recorded its maiden win on Wednesday, December 10, against Uganda. Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama left Ugandan MPs perplexed over what business a ‘professional player’ had in a match strictly reserved for honourables members.

The team extended the feat to silence Rwanda in a sweeping 3–0 set win.

Other members of the volleyball team are Paul Nzengu, Brighton Yegon, Duncan Maina, Victor Koech Mandazi, Alfred Mutai, Josses Lelmengit, Jackson Mandago, Robert Basil, Seki Ole Lenku, and the newly elected UDA senator for Baringo, Vincent Chemitei.

The third-place playoff is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025, where Rwanda and Uganda will face off to wrap up the podium finishers
