Tanzania’s JKT Queens crowned CECAFA Champions, Kenya Police Bullets secure bronze
JKT Queens of Tanzania have been crowned champions of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers after defeating Rwanda’s Rayon Sports WFC 1-0 in the final played at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The hard-fought match saw JKT secure their place at the continental tournament as CECAFA’s representatives. The Tanzanian side, who previously lifted the regional title in 2023, showed their experience and composure on the big stage.
The decisive moment came in the second half when JKT broke the deadlock. Their disciplined defence then kept Rayon Sports at bay, ensuring the narrow lead stood until the final whistle. The victory confirmed their second CECAFA crown and underlined their growing reputation as one of the region’s top women’s football teams.
Rayon Sports had reached the finals after eliminating Uganda’s Kampala Queens on penalties in the semi-finals. Despite their efforts, they could not find a breakthrough against a strong JKT side.
Police Bullets secure bronze
Kenya Police Bullets ended their campaign on a high by sealing a bronze medal finish after beating Kampala Queens 1-0 in the third-place playoff.

The Bullets struck early in the first half through Ugandan forward Margret Kunihira, who continued her fine form in the tournament. Her decisive goal was enough to hand the Kenyan side victory, as they held off late pressure from Kampala to claim third place.
The bronze medal was a deserved reward for the Bullets, who had suffered a narrow semi-final defeat to JKT Queens on penalties. They showed character to bounce back quickly and close the tournament with a win.
Throughout the qualifiers, the Bullets impressed with their organisation and attacking play. Kunihira led from the front, while Emily Morang’a and Zaina Namuleme created problems for opponents with their pace and movement.
The experience gained at this level will be vital as the Bullets continue their development. They demonstrated that they can compete with the region’s best sides and will aim to build on this performance in future competitions.
