Struggling Kisumu All-Starlets hope to avoid relegation
Kisumu All-Starlets could be hitting the wrong notes in Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League this season, but the fighting spirit within the team and desire to remain afloat, are telling it all.
Last weekend, All-Starlets welcomed visiting Wadadia FC at the Moi Stadium Kisumu, but despite putting up an unrelenting show of determination, one moment of brilliance from Wadadia FC’s new signing Jackeline Chesang from Wiyeta Girls broke them down after her goal sent the Kisumu side crumbling in a 1-0 defeat.
The result was their 12th defeat this season which leaves them in the bottom-last three positions with only 10 points from 16 matches, similar points with second last Kayole Starlets.
Kangemi Ladies are bottom in position 12 with a paltry six points, and are in the danger of facing the axe unless they convert their good show to wins in the remaining six matches.
Kisumu’s current position and the threat of facing relegation is not amazing coach Said Juma. The coach however is not giving up as he is doing everything possible to move them out of the relegation redline.
“We don’t deserve to be where we’re. Everything seems not right, especially in the field. We need to do more, we need points to move up the ladder,” Juma said.
“We need to psyche ourselves up and invoke those winning feelings. We need to warm up and win matches. It’s not over yet, so I’m banking on the remaining fixtures to get a considerable number of points that will be enough to keep us afloat,” added coach Said.
The victory on the other hand was a sigh of relief for Wadadia FC who bounced back to winning ways and into the top safe middle table standings after having gone four matches without victory. Coach Hassani Maloba’s tutored Wadadia side is up to eight on the log with 18 points after 16 matches.
“With all fairness, I can say, Kisumu All-Starlets had a good game, they pushed us to the limit, and they gave their all in the match, leave alone the results,” coach Maloba said.
