Struggling APS Bomet sweep Gor Mahia aside ahead of Mashemeji Derby
Football Kenya Federation Premier League table-toppers Gor Mahia suffered an unexpected setback after being convincingly beaten 4-1 by relegation-threatened APS Bomet in a rescheduled match played on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Bright start
K’Ogalo started brightly and drew first blood just five minutes into the contest through Ghanaian forward George Amonoo, who calmly found the back of the net to give the Charles Akonnor men an early advantage.
However, APS Bomet responded emphatically as Hansel Ochieng turned the game on its head with two quick goals in the 39th and 42nd minutes, sending his side into the break with a 2-1 lead. After the interval, APS Bomet maintained their dominance and extended their lead further with two late strikes in the 77th and 87th minutes, sealing an impressive and comprehensive victory over the record champions.
Crucial win for APS Bomet
The crucial win marked APS Bomet’s second triumph of the campaign and saw them climb off the bottom of the standings to second-from-last place with eight points, moving just one point clear of Kariobangi Sharks.
For Gor Mahia, the defeat reduces their momentum ahead of the Saturday, November 29, 2025, Mashemeji Derby, where K’Ogalo will lock horns with their eternal rivals, AFC Leopards, at the Nyayo National Stadium. The shocker also marked Gor Mahia’s second beating of the season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bidco United in their opening fixture in September.

However, despite the humiliation by the newbies, K’Ogalo still lead the rest of the pack with 19 points in eight matches, a point above second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz, who have played one more match.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia goalkeeper Brynne Omondi failed to deliver another composed performance after shining against Tusker FC previously. Speaking to the club’s media after the match, the Harambee Stars goalie praised the collective effort that secured the crucial win.
Reflecting on the encounter, Omondi acknowledged the intensity of the battle and the quality of the opposition. “The game was tough. The opponents gave us a hard time because Tusker is also a big team. Everybody is fighting for a positive result, but the good thing is that we eased the pressure by getting the maximum points,” he said.
