Kenya 7s exhibited a dominant performance in their Safari 7s Pool A match, securing a resounding 36-0 victory over SA Allstars at RFUEA Grounds.
The team, led by captain Vincent Onyala and standout player Patrick Odongo, each scored two tries, in the win.
Kenya 7s confidence
The Shujaa squad entered the tournament with confidence following their impressive showing in the Africa Men’s 7s and were determined to defend the Safari 7s title they claimed in 2021.
Patrick Odongo, the top scorer in the African Men’s 7s, made a strong start by scoring the opening try. The team extended their lead with forward Kevin Wekesa crossing over for a try, although Tony Omondi missed the conversion.
Shujaa captain Vincent Onyala broke through the defence in the midfield, scoring a centre post try to give his team a commanding 19-0 lead.
Kenya 7s double for Odongo
Odongo secured his brace by capitalizing on a pass from Wekesa, racing for a centre post try that Nygel Amaista successfully converted.
Brian Mutugi, coming off the bench, made a significant impact by cutting through the defence and reaching the try line, contributing to Shujaa’s 31-0 lead.
Captain Onyala displayed his skills with a break on the left, sealing the match with the final try.
The Kenya Morans, another Kenyan team, also had a successful run, achieving their second consecutive win with a narrow 14-12 victory over Samurai.
In a previous match, the Morans secured a 24-0 win over Western Province Select, earning three points. Floyd Wabwire showcased his speed with a coast-to-coast run to score the opener within two minutes, adding another try just before halftime.
Ronnie Omondi’s short ball set up Benson Salem for a 17-0 lead. In the second half, Austine Sikutwa scored the lone try, securing the Morans’ 24-0 win.
