Strathmore Leos, KCB set up Driftwood 7s final rematch at Prinsloo showdown
By Kenneth Mwenda, August 3, 2025Strathmore Leos and KCB Rugby will lock horns once again in a mouth-watering Prinsloo 7s final after both sides cruised through their semi-final clashes at Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The showdown is a repeat of last weekend’s dramatic Driftwood 7s final in Mombasa, where KCB edged Strathmore 15-14 in a pulsating encounter. Now, with pride and precious National Sevens Circuit points at stake, the two Nairobi powerhouses are set for yet another seismic duel.
Leos were the first to book their place in the final after dismantling Catholic Monks 40-0 in a one-sided semi-final. The students ran riot from the first whistle, showcasing clinical finishing and superior pace. Samuel Wafula and Victor Mola were unstoppable in open play.
Their defence was just as impressive, shutting down every attempt by the Monks to break through. The clean sheet underlines Strathmore’s determination to make amends for last weekend’s heartbreak and reaffirm their title credentials.

KCB, Leos reach final
In the second semi-final, KCB battled past a gritty Menengai Oilers side, grinding out a 10-5 win in a hard-fought contest. The Bankers were made to work for every inch, but ultimately did just enough to hold off the hosts. The Oilers responded with a late surge, but KCB’s structure and discipline held firm to see them through.
This marks back-to-back finals for both KCB and Strathmore, the standout teams of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit so far. KCB, who are seeking to tighten their grip on the series lead, will be eyeing another crown after their statement victory last weekend.
For Strathmore Leos, however, Sunday’s final represents more than just silverware. It is a chance at redemption, to show they can go toe-to-toe with Kenya’s most successful 7s side and come out on top.
With the sun beating down on Nakuru and the stands packed, all eyes will be on this heavyweight clash between brains and brawn. Will Leos roar to glory, or will the Bankers cash in once more? Kick-off is set for later this afternoon in what promises to be a thrilling finale to the second leg of the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
