Kilifi county to get first ever stadium by 2026, Deputy Governor announces

Residents of Kilifi County will have to wait until 2026 for them to have a quality international standardised stadium.

Speaking to People Sports in Mombasa Town, Deputy Governor Florence Chibule said that the current leadership was banking on young women and men for a bright future among the residents of the county.

“ We already have set Sh800 million aside for buying a piece of land where we are going to construct a 20,000-capacity Sports facility that will host both indoor and outdoor sports disciplines,” said Chibule.

She was accompanied by the county minister for sports, youth and culture Dama Masha who disclosed that Kilifi is adversely affected by early childhood marriages mixed with low literacy levels among young men and women, an issue said will soon be addressed through the construction of the Kilifi Talent University at Mariakani.

“We have started seven teams within the county under the project of young mothers where we are giving second chances to young women who got married at early ages to go back to school or join vocational training colleges by offering them scholarships,” added Dama Masha.

Kilifi county has no standardized public Stadium with the available sporting infrastructures being delapilated open grounds which some are now being grabbed by private investors leaving sports enthusiast with no options but to fall prey to societal vices.
