Sports CS Salim Mvurya leads assurance drive as CAF inspectors tour Kenya
By Lucky Oluoch, May 24, 2025Kenya has reiterated its full commitment to co-hosting a successful African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025, as CAF officials began yesterday a three-day inspection tour of the country’s preparedness for the tournament.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya assured CAF of Kenya’s determination to implement all recommendations from the assessment and deliver a world-class event.
He was speaking during a high-level meeting with CAF 3rd Vice President and CHAN Organising Committee President Pierre Alain Mounguengui as the delegation evaluated infrastructure and logistical readiness.
“We welcome the support that CAF has accorded Kenya, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania during this critical preparation period, we do not take it for granted. I want to assure CAF that Kenya is ready, and we have aligned our systems to fully support CAF in delivering a stellar event,” said Mvurya, reaffirming the country’s strategic role in the regional partnership.
The Cabinet Secretary also revealed that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are in advanced talks to ease cross-border movement of fans, players and officials.
“The tripartite countries have progressed well in mobility discussions aimed at removing logistical bottlenecks, both at a regional level and for individual participants. We will be updating CAF soon with feedback on the decisions reached by our respective governments,” he added.
CAF’s Mounguengui lauded the efforts of the three host nations, calling for urgent completion of pending works at the designated venues to meet CAF standards.
The ongoing inspection is part of CAF’s routine checks covering venue readiness, security, accommodation and coordination.
This is because CHAN 2025 is expected to draw thousands of fans and athletes, positioning East Africa as a key player in hosting top-tier continental events and promoting sports growth across Africa.
