A local derby in women’s football will be born this Sunday, March 27, 2022, in Siaya County Women League, when high-flying Siaya Queens and Siaya Starlets take on each other. Both teams have not lost any match so far, making the mouthwatering match even more appalling as the two top-of-the-table sides meet at Mur Malanga Primary School grounds.

The much-anticipated encounter will be hosted by Siaya Queens. Both teams are plotting to outplay each other to top the Alego Usonga Zone and to conclude the first leg fixtures, unbeaten.

Siaya Queens thrashed Ndere Ladies 7-0 and Ravens FC 3-0 to top the standings while Siaya Starlets comes second having won 1-0 against Ravens FC, and a narrow 2-1 against Ndere Ladies.

Siaya Queen’s head coach John Ohanga is happy with their progress in the league and he’s confident that his side will produce a convincing victory over their rivals.

“It’s a match we’ve been looking forward to, it’s challenging but we are going for maximum points,” coach Ohanga said.

His counterpart, Siaya Starlets tactician James Ahela says, he has prepared his side well, and they have one goal in the match, to collect all the three points so that they can leapfrog the league leaders, and finish their first leg campaign on a high.

“Queens are good offensively, we have to stop that and beat them to lead the log. The girls are psyched up, and everyone is looking forward to this titanic match in Siaya women’s football. It’s going to be epic” Starlets coach Ahela said.

A total of 18 teams from Alego Usonga, Gem, Ugenya/Ugunja, and Bondo/Rarieda zones are participating in the league which is expected to continue this weekend with more matches lined up across the four zones.
