Shujaa’s rivals for 2023 Safari 7s title confirmed
By Joel Sang, October 28, 2023The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced 12 teams that have confirmed their participation in the upcoming 2023 Safari 7s tournament.
The tournament will see three Kenyan teams in action, with Shujaa, the defending champions, leading the charge alongside the 2021 bronze medalists and crowd favourites, the Kenya Morans.
The international representation will be a key feature of the competition, with the inclusion of the UK’s invitational sides, namely Tropic 7s, Apache 7s, and Red Wailers. Germany is also set to make a return to Nairobi for the event, and Qatar will join the lineup, adding an exciting dimension to the tournament.
The usual contenders are back as well, with Samurai 7s, Uganda, Zimbabwe Cheetahs, Zambia, and National 7s Circuit Champions KCB Rugby all confirmed participants.
Safari 7s schedule
The Safari 7s is scheduled to be held from November 17 to 19, with the action taking place at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds in Nairobi.
In the previous edition of the tournament in 2021, Shujaa clinched the title by defeating Germany 12-5 in the cup finals. The Kenya Morans secured the third-place finish by overcoming Red Wailers 12-5, earning themselves the bronze medal.
The Safari Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event that brings together a diverse range of teams, including international representatives, professional and amateur clubs, invitational squads, as well as university and school teams. It provides an exciting platform for rugby sevens enthusiasts to enjoy the fast-paced and thrilling format of the sport.
