Shem Odinga reflects on making FKF PL debut against Gor Mahia

Nairobi City Stars defensive midfielder Shem Odinga expressed his delight after making his debut against Gor Mahia last weekend.

Odinga, who joined City Stars during the January transfer window from lower-tier side Kibera Angels, made his first appearance in the FKF Premier League on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

He came on as a substitute in the later stages of the match against Gor Mahia, which ended in a 1-0 loss for City Stars.

Reflecting on his debut, Odinga mentioned that he felt no pressure playing against the Kenyan giants and thoroughly enjoyed the minutes he spent on the pitch.

He expressed excitement about the opportunity and stated his eagerness to contribute more to the team in future matches.

“It’s exciting to have made my debut for Simba wa Nairobi on Saturday against Gor Mahia. I felt no pressure at all and I loved the experience, and the system of play.

“After this first game, I am now looking forward to more minutes and games,” Odinga told City Stars media.

Shem Odinga’s reason

When asked about his decision to join City Stars, Odinga cited that the club’s style of play suited him perfectly, and he didn’t hesitate to accept the opportunity when it came.

He expressed gratitude for being scouted and acknowledged the seamless transition to City Stars, emphasizing his belief in achieving success with the team by the end of the season.

“Joining City Stars was easy for me because the system of play fits me. I did not think twice about joining the club especially after I was informed that they had scouted me and had made an inquiry about my services,” he revealed.

“I had to grab it immediately, and I am am so happy to be with this amazing team, Simba wa Nairobi. I believe I will achieve a lot by the end of the season.” Odinga concluded.

Odinga’s debut marks the eighth City Stars player to make their top-flight debut this season under head coach Nicholas Muyoti’s tenure, continuing the team’s tradition of giving opportunities to emerging talents.
