Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Shabana FC have sacked their head coach Sammy Okoth after a series of poor performances in the top flight.
Okoth has left the National Super League champions 17th after a win, four draws and six losses in ten games.
In a joint statement, the football club also noted they will be parting ways with their goalkeeper trainer Collins Oduor.
“It will be mutual agreement that we have decided to part ways with our head coach, Sammy Okoth and goalkeeper trainer Collins Oduor. As a club, we deeply value and appreciate the significant contributions and unwavering dedication they have exhibited throughout their tenure with our organization. We extend our heartfelt best wishes for their future endeavour,” part of the statement read.
Shabana FC chairman Jared Ombongi has since announced Oscar Kambona as the interim head coach.
“In the interim, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Oscar Kambona as the head coach while we actively engage in the search for a suitable replacement for this vital position. We remain in our commitment to our mission and are resolute in our determination to stage a strong comeback,” Shabana FC said.
Currently, the Kisii-based club are currently second from the bottom of the 18-team table with seven points from 10 matches.
Shabana have won once, lost five times and left with shared points during the last four games and going forward, they are now going to be under a different technical bench.
Previously, Okoth hinted that he was going to leave the FKF Premier League debutants after they suffered a 4-0 – their heaviest defeat so far – in the hands of Ulinzi Stars.
There are a few options on the market for Shabana to appoint as Okoth’s successor; Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, a former Gor Mahia and KCB head coach, is available since he is not attached to any club now.
Frank Ouna, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno who has also been at KCB and Gor Mahia, and former Police Francis Baraza are among the free agents available for Shabana.
