Ruto delivers message to Harambee Stars ahead of CHAN 2024
President William Ruto has assured the Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars, of the nation’s unequivocal support as they gear up for the historic CHAN 2024 games.
Speaking during a visit to the team’s camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Ruto reminded the team that they will be carrying the aspirations of 55 million Kenyans and urged them to seize the moment to make history for the country.
Hope of Kenyans
“We are going to host CHAN, and we have you guys to represent 55 million. That is the weight of responsibility you have. I have come here as president to tell you we believe and trust you. We believe in your capacity and your professionalism, and we will cheer you and support you,” he told the team.

The President also noted that each Kenyan will be rooting for the Kenyan team no matter their political persuasion or background.
“You can count on our unity. I want you to know every Kenyan from every corner, every religion, and every political persuasion is standing with you, individually and collectively,” he added.
Make it a success
He also restated the same sentiments to coach Benni McCarthy and his technical bench, who will be leading the Stars in the historic continental competition on home soil for the very first time.
“The coach, you have our support and blessing as you lead this team with our technical bench. We are going to work with you, whatever you require. We have people here from the ministry that can help you with anything you need. Ensure everything comes together and make this a success,” he told the SA tactician.
The president’s visit comes four days after the team hit a residential camp at the sporting facility in preparations of the biennial tournament.
Kenya will host the 2024 edition alongside Uganda and Tanzania starting August 2, 2025.
