Rugby Super Series returns after 10 years
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced the return of the Rugby Super Series (RSS) after a ten-year hiatus.
In a historic move, the 2024 Rugby Super Series will include two Women’s teams for the first time since its inception in 2003, promoting inclusivity and development within the sport.

Scheduled to unfold on four Saturdays in May 2024, with matches rotating between Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kakamega, the tournament will feature four men’s and two women’s teams.
Men’s teams, representing Kenya Cup Clubs, include Buffaloes, Cheetahs, Lions, and Rhinos, while Women’s teams will be part of the National Lionesses’ squad, competing as Eagles & Jaguars.
Further details regarding team selection, coaching staff appointments, and club compositions will be disclosed in due course.
The Men’s Format will entail each team playing against the others across the first three match days at different venues, with the top two teams progressing to the final. Women’s matches will be held in Nairobi, with the winners determined by aggregate scores over two games.
Aggrey Chabeda, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Rugby Super Series, expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted to be part of this momentous occasion and to share our vision for the future of the tournament.”
Chabeda highlighted the tournament’s rich heritage, emphasizing its pivotal role in shaping Kenya XV’s rugby.
“This tournament has a storied history and has played a crucial role in shaping the landscape of Kenya XV’s rugby. We are excited to revive it and provide a platform for our top players to shine on the national stage once again,” he added.
Objectives of Rugby Super Series
He outlined the primary objectives of the tournament, focusing on raising the standards of play, ensuring professional and commercial management of the tournament, and creating a family-friendly entertainment experience.
“Our primary goals are to elevate the playing standards for our top players, manage the tournament professionally and commercially, and provide an environment for family-friendly entertainment,” Chabeda remarked.
