Rift Valley rules…
Rift Valley region successfully defended its national title during the 44th edition of Kenya Primary Schools Association at William ole Ntimama stadium in Narok County by scoring 511 points as the games ended on Tuesday evening.
During the closing ceremony graced by Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu, Western region members broke into song and dance after being declared the runners-up on 315 points while Nyanza was third on 281 points.
Central and Coast regions settled for fourth and fifth positions with 130 points and 127 points respectively.
Eastern region finished on sixth position on 104 points, followed by Nairobi on 21 points, and North Eastern was bottom on 15 points.
Rift valley displayed their supremacy in the boys 3000 meters race after Emmanuel Someki from Dr Masidet Primary School beat a strong field of runners to cross the finish line in a time of 7:25. He was followed by Dominic Kiplimo of Maromu Primary School also from Rift-Valley who clocked 7:34 as Mathew Kibet of Kostoi Primary School from Western region settled for the third spot after stopping the clock at 08:00.
Rift Valley continued their dominance in the 5000m girls walk race competition after Damaris Chepkoech won in a time of 26:40 as she was followed by Glady Wairimu of Central in a time of 26:41 while Faith Muthoni of Rift-Valley was third after clocking 26:41.50.
Sandra Chepchumba of Kapcheplanget Primary School in Kericho won the 2000m girls’ race followed by Rehema Chepkurui a pupil at Katet Primary School and Venesa Chebet of Kaboriot Primary School in Western region was distant third.
In the 100m boys final race, Samuel Chege from Narok in Rift-Valley region won in a time of 11:09 and was followed by Albert Oigo from Ekerubo Primary School in Nyanza region who clocked 11:96 ahead of his team mate Brian Ochieng who stopped the clock at 12:12.
In the girls 100 meters competition, Western region through Selfa Ajiambo a pupil at Nangina Primary School won the race in a time of 12:78.
