Why Rachier is concerned after ‘village team’ outclassed Gor Mahia

By , February 27, 2024

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has revealed his deep concern after their elimination from the Football Kenya Federation 2024 Cup by Denmark FC.

K’Ogalo were held to a goalless draw by the Ukunda-based side, which went on to outsmart the Premier League giants in the post-match penalties with a 5-4 win in Mombasa on Sunday.

While reacting to the elimination, Rachier referred to Denmark FC as a village team as he wondered how his side was unable to compete against the lower side.

“I’m very concerned, and I’m particularly concerned about [Sunday’s] performance in Ukunda because you don’t expect a village team to beat the FKF Premier League champions.

“They’re not even in the National Super League (NSL). Granted, football is football, but when I see unexpected results like that, I must get concerned,” Rachier told a local publication.

Rachier’s concern

The long-serving Gor Mahia chair explained why the loss does not sit well with him.

“I believe it was only [on Sunday] that they (Denmark FC) got their registration cards from FKF; they were completely unregistered players, and for them to outplay us in the first half and eventually eliminate us on penalties is a very disappointing result,” he added.

Rachier also took issue with the fact that their striking department is not as lethal as it should be.

“I’m also concerned that even in the matches we’re winning, although we’re leading, we’re among the least scorers; we hardly score more than one goal. Why?” the football administrator added.

Rachier’s concern about the low number of goals came after head coach Johnathan McKinstry defended his team over the same issue.

“We spread our goals within the team. Other teams score three, four, or five in one game, but I prefer to score one regularly.

“We have played against top teams like Tusker and Posta Rangers and won [against City Stars], and we came up with a victory, and that is what you need to win the title,” McKinstry said then.
