With Wazito FC having confirmed their survival in the top tier league after escaping the chop by a whisker on Wednesday, all eyes will now be trained on the duo of Mara Sugar FC and Migori Youth FC as they battle to earn third place in the National Super League, and the probably a ticket to the Premier League, with three matches left to the close of the 2022-23 Super League campaign.

This weekend see both teams clash with tricky opponents as pressure and tension build every day as the climax fast approaches.

High flying Mombasa Elite host third placed Mara Sugar at Mbaraki Sports Club today afternoon. In the last three meetings, Mombasa Elite has won twice with the sugar-men winning once. At this rate, history might count for nothing but Mara Sugar Francis Xavier knows what is at stake and is rallying his boys to come good.

“This is an important fixture and we all understand it. We must be ready for a fight and think of winning. I want urge my players to give it their all and our supporters to be behind us. It is taking a game at a time and we know some rectifications have to be done from our last match,” he stated.

In another crucial fixture tomorrow, fourth placed Migori Youth faces an uphill task against neighbors Gusii FC currently in seventh place. The duo have in recent times had intersting battles between themselves. In the three last games, only one game has ended with a slim 1-0 win by Migori Youth in the second leg last season. The other two previous games have ended in 1-1 draws. Coach Kevin Oluoch for Migori Youth will want to put his frustrations of the last big game loss against Shabana away and focus on an important win.

The game to be played at Migori Stadium is expected to rekindle a rivalry of sorts as all eyes will be on the other fixture in Mombasa between Elite and Mara. As it stands both Mara FC and Migori Youth FC are tied on 53 points but with the former on a better goal difference.Battle for the title prize still goes on with Shabana in action as top-side Murang’a Seal take a breather.
