After taking a break for the festive season, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League is set to resume with Posta Rangers and Gor Mahia the highlight of the nine matches lined up across the country tomorrow and Sunday.

The Mailmen will host K’Ogalo at Machakos Stadium tomorrow seeking a win to cut the gap between them and the reigning league champions. Posta have enjoyed the top spot for most of the campaign but K’Ogalo overtook them to open a five-point gap following their 1-0 victory against Bandari before the break.

Gor Mahia are currently leading the 18-team log on 34 points from 16 matches, while Posta are second on 29 points from the same number of matches. A win for the Mailmen means they will cut K’Ogalo’s lead to two points.

Posta head coach John Kamau has called on his players to show their intent of winning their first-ever title by getting maximum points in the contest.

“You need to win such games against top teams in the league to show your intentions for the season, and my players know what the win against Gor Mahia will do for us at the top of the table,” said Kamau, adding: “It is the reason we have to be ready to get a win, we want to be at our best in all our matches and it will be the same case against Gor.”

The two teams have met six times in the top-flight with Posta winning two, losing three times, and drawing one. Last season in the corresponding fixture, Gor Mahia secured a 2-0 win before the two sides settled for a 2-2 draw in the second-round meeting.

In other matches set for tomorrow, Bandari will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Nzoia Sugar at Mbaraki Sports Club. While the Dockers lost their last fixture 1-0 against Gor Mahia, Nzoia defeated KCB 1-0 but are still languishing in the basement with 13 points.

Shabana will host Muhoroni Youth seeking their fourth victory of the season, high flying Nairobi City Stars, who defeated Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in their last assignment will host FC Talanta, while Kenya Police will entertain Abana Beingo.

On Saturday, the focus will be on the KCB vs Tusker game with the Brewers looking to make it four wins out of four. Since their 0-0 draw against Posta, Tusker have registered three straight wins – 3-2 against Bidco United, 2-0 against Nzoia, and 1-0 against Police – to move up the table to position seven on 25 points.

AFC Leopards will host Ulinzi Stars having drawn their last game 1-1 against Murang’a Seal. Meanwhile, new Sofapaka coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will take charge of the team for the first time when they host Bidco while Kariobangi Sharks will face off with Murang’a.
