Pepe: Arsenal’s former record signing leaves after contract termination
By Story Agencies, September 10, 2023Nicolas Pepe, once Arsenal’s club-record signing, has left the club after his contract was terminated.
The Ivory Coast international signed for the Gunners from Nice for £72 million in August 2019 and made 112 appearances in all competitions, scoring 27 times.
The 28-year-old last played for Mikel Arteta’s side in a 5-1 win over Everton in May 2022, and he spent the last term on loan at Nice.
Arsenal’s statement
“We have agreed with Nicolas to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
“Ivory Coast international Nicolas, who joined us from French side Lille in the summer of 2019, won the FA Cup with us in 2020, assisting our winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea. During his time at the club, the forward has made 111 appearances for us in all competitions.
“The 28-year-old, who had one year left on his contract, spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice, where he made 28 appearances, scoring eight goals during the campaign.
“Everyone at Arsenal thanks Nicolas for his contribution during his time with us and wishes him well for the future,” Arsenal said.
Pepe to Trabzonspor
Pepe has been in Istanbul this weekend ahead of a potential move to Trabzonspor.
The Turkish Super Lig club posted on the club’s Twitter account a video with Pepe on a private jet, where he said: “I came here to become a champion and achieve success.”
