Pamoja Chan24 report outlines fete readiness
By Samson Ateka, July 25, 2025With the completion of key infrastructure upgrades and the establishment of robust governance frameworks, Chan24 organisers in Nairobi believe the upcoming event (slated for August 2-30) stands on a solid foundation.
In a “Pamoja Chan24 Preparedness” report released by the Local Organising Committee chairman Nicholas Musonye highlighted: “Stadiums and training facilities have been fully refurbished and accredited, multi-agency security plans are in place, and inter-ministerial coordination ensures seamless decision-making at every level.”
The past few months have been hectic for the LOC as well as other facets of preparation. The Ministry of Defence was tasked with the responsibility of renovating the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium, including the training grounds (namely Ulinzi Sports Complex, Kenya Police Sacco Stadium, Utalii Sports Grounds, and Kasarani’s Upper and Lower warm-up pitches) which are all completed and have been handed over to the LOC.
Musonye extolled the efforts of various governmental arms in the three East African states involved in the planning of the event, which is a preserve of home-based players.
“The Pamoja Chan24 governance structure arises from the acceptance and commitment of the three East African Presidents to host Pamoja Afcon27 and Pamoja Chan24 competitions.
“The Pamoja Council of Sports Ministers is composed of the Ministers/Cabinet Secretaries responsible for Sports in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This body provides high-level political oversight and is currently chaired by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports of Kenya.”
Musonye added in his report: “The Pamoja Regional Technical Committee is comprised of the three Principal/Permanent Secretaries responsible for Sports in each country. This committee drives the detailed planning and coordination of technical, financial and operational matters. It is presently chaired by the Principal Secretary for Sports of Kenya.”
Musonye also highlighted the institutional coordination body, the Chan-Afcon Multi-Agency Team (MAT)/National Steering Committee, which has been of immense significance to the event.
He similarly noted the success story of the upcoming event, which is a preserve of home-based footballers.
“The LOC committees have held multiple in-person and virtual meetings to coordinate Chan24 preparations, conducting CAF-standard inspections, and advising on best practices. Achievements to date include full payment of hosting fees to CAF.
Musonye also noted that the Government Guarantee and Host Agreement have been signed, infrastructure certified by CAF to host the competition, and LOC members and secretariat trained.
“The security personnel have had a series of trainings to prepare for the event. The LOC and Secretariat are aligned with CAF hosting protocols. All protocol reports have been submitted to CAF,” said Musonye in the report.
