Ulinzi’s men’s and women’s handball teams are currently enjoying a great run in the ongoing national handball league which took a break last weekend.
The men’s team currently share top rankings with leaders National Cereals Produce Board (NCPB) on 28 points with both winning 14 matches but only separated by a goal difference of +72.
Ulinzi men have so far scored 487 field goals.
The women’s side, Ulinzi Sharks have a game in hand with 20 points off 11 matches and six points a drift of league leaders Nairobi Water.
Just like their male counterparts, the Sharks are yet to lose a match this season and have a goal difference of +20.
Meanwhile, at least six league games, men’s and women’s were played. Nairobi Water who are out to defend their title were ruthless on Saturday against Rising Star hammering the opponents 54-09 in what was a one-sided affair.
The trio of Brenda Musamba, Alfrenda Aela and Jane Waithera scored 23 field goals with Musumba being the top-scorer with nine goals.
Struggling Rising Star had Zabida Atieno almost single-handedly helping the team with her six goals.
In another contest, second-placed NCPB also damaged Daystar University with a clinical 53-15 score. Sheryl Atieno had 10 goals and emerged top-scorer in the match while Sarah Mabonga got nine field goals and Joan Akinyi scored six goals.
Elsewhere Nairobi City County (NCC) had to fend off a strong challenge from New Hope to earn a 29-21 victory on Saturday. Winny Cherop had eight goals assisted by Carolyne Chebet and Esther Nyambura both on six apiece with the opponents having Florence Sanyisa as their top scorer on six goals with another trio on four each.
In the men’s lone match of the weekend, Kenyatta University overpowered neighbours Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 28-21 in a sizzling varsity derby at the Nyayo Stadium Courts. Morgan Simiyu was the top scorer in the match with his eight goals that helped KU to get an important victory over their rivals. On the opposite end, Dolan Bwibo had seven goals including two penalties.
