Olunga reveals secret that has kept him almost injury-free

The Al Duhail SC striker has been in phenomenal form, especially for the Qatar Stars League, and has now explained what has helped him.
“When games are back-to-back, you really have to have a good recovery programme. You’ve got to eat well, sleep well, and rest well.
“It’s demanding when you’ve got to play 90 minutes more frequently,” Olunga said in an interview with QSL.
Olunga’s season assessment
The former Gor Mahia and Thika United forward also gave his assessment of the league so far. Al Duhail have played five games, and although they have not been in top form, Olunga hopes things will take a far better course.
“The new season has so far been good, if not great. But of course, we can do better, and there’s scope for improvement.
“We played well, but we couldn’t reach our full potential. We’re trying to solve problems. Moving forward, we’re expecting better results,” he added.
With the improved level of competition and the arrival of top stars in the league, Olunga believes that the Qatar national team will, in the end, reap the fruits of such development.
“Of course, the league’s quality has improved. Lots of teams have signed quality players, and the level of competition is much more intense.
“All teams are well-equipped, so naturally it’ll reflect on the level of the Stars League. I’m sure we’re going to see improvement in the level of Qatari players, and, in turn, the Qatar national team will also benefit,” the Golden Boot winner added.
Olunga’s goal target
Olunga has been in phenomenal form in front of goal since he signed for Al Duhail from Kashiwa Reyson of Japan. He has promised to keep improving with the Qatari champions.
“Definitely, it’s a wonderful achievement. It’s a great feeling as a striker to be competing with other players and becoming the best scorer.
“It shows the desire and hunger for success. Each season presents a big responsibility when you represent a team like Al Duhail. As a player, I’ve got to be up to the task.
“Al Duhail have given me a big opportunity, and I’ll keep giving my best to them,” the Harambee Star added.
The Kenyan Premier League winner also revealed his expectations for the Asian Champions League in the current season.
“You’re competing among the 40 best clubs in Asia. The level is quite high, and teams have fantastic players in their ranks. But that’s the beauty of football.
“If you want to be the best, you’ve got to compete with the best and emerge victorious. We’re relishing the challenge. It’s not going to be easy, but nothing is impossible in football. We’re Al Duhail; we’re a great club,” he concluded.
Olunga is expected to lead Kenya’s frontline during a friendly match against Russia in Turkey on October 16, 2023.
