Olunga on target in Al Duhail’s dramatic draw against Al Arabi

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga was on target for Al Duhail SC during a dramatic 3-3 draw against Al Arabi in a Qatar Stars League match on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Olunga broke the deadlock in the fifth minute with an assist from France international Ibrahima Diallo.

Al Arabi struck back in the 13th minute when Senegal’s Abdou Diallo scored, but the Africa Cup of Nations-winning defender scored an own goal in the 58th minute to hand Olunga’s side a lead.

A goal in the 73rd minute by Abdullah Marafee with an assist from Hilal Mohammed gave the home team the lead, which lasted until added time when Ismaeel Mohammad scored for Al Duhail.

Al Arabi struck back again when they won a penalty, which was successfully converted by Omar Al Sommah in the ninth minute of added time.

Olunga cautioned

Olunga, Assim Madibo, a second-half substitute, and Diallo were the players who were cautioned with yellow cards. The Kenyan was yellow-carded in the sixth minute of added time in the first half, and his teammate Madibo got into the referee’s book in the 69th minute.

Al Arabi’s Diallo was cautioned in the 76th minute.

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars defender Johnstone Omurwa played for the entirety of the match when Estrela da Amadora faced and shared points with Portimonense in Portuguese Primeira League action on Saturday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw as Omurwa, a former Wazito defender, started his third straight game for his side.

Ng’ang’a debut goal

Finally, Football Kenya Federation Premier League winner Dennis Ng’ang’a was on target as Zanaco defeated Trident 2-0 in Zambian Super League action on Saturday.

Chawanangwa Kaonga broke the deadlock in favour of Zanaco in the 34th minute, before the former Gor Mahia defender added the second in the 68th minute.

Ng’ang’a’s teammate at Gor Mahia and now a colleague in Zambia, John Ochieng, featured in the second half when he was brought on to replace Brian Mwila in the 53rd minute.
