Olunga celebrates a goal and a win as Al Arabi skipper
By Luke Oluoch, November 30, 2025Michael Olunga celebrates yet another stellar performance as the skipper of Al Arabi in a 5-4 win over Al Akhor in the seventh round of the Qatar Stars League Cup tie played on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
Olunga bagged a goal sandwiched between Pablo Sarabia’s hat trick.
The former Wolves man, who joined the Arabi on a free transfer following his contract expiry at the English side, was firing on all cylinders as Cosmin Contra’s team took a commanding 4-1 lead at the hour mark.
Nervy end
A drop in concentration level saw the hosts on the cusp of restoring parity after Arabi conceded two goals, reducing the deficit to a goal difference.
Olunga and his side, however, held on after a nervy end to claim the victory and advance to the next round.
The win cements the club’s silent improvement on both the league and cup fronts.

The record Qatar league champions are currently positioned in 6th place out of 12 teams in the league table. They have accumulated 16 points from 10 matches, recording four wins and as many draws, with 18 goals scored and 12 conceded.
The result came on the backdrop of his man-of-the-match display on Sunday, November 24, 2025, against Qatar SC, where he bagged a brace in a clash against Al.
Olunga powered Al Arabi to a dominant 5–1 victory in the 10th round of the Doha Bank Stars League.
Other Al Arabi goals were scored by Sarabia (24’, 40’) and Yazan Al-Naamat, who sealed the win with an 81st-minute strike.
Ayunga’s Saints beaten
Meanwhile, in Scotland, Jonay Ayunga was a substitute in St Mirren’s 3-1 defeat to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
Ayunga has struggled to earn a starting berth in recent times as Saints’ struggles in front of goal continue to haunt their quest for a top league finish.
After the loss, manager Stephen Robinson challenged the team to rise and show a different character when they next take to the pitch on Monday, December 1, 2025.
“As a collective we have to stand up now. We’ll take the criticism and come back fighting on Monday.”
