Oliech’s former club Dagoretti Santos wins in Sakaja Cup kick off
By Lucky Oluoch and Dennis Mabuka, October 11, 2023Kenya’s all-time goal scorer and former national football team Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech’s boyhood club Dagoretti Santos started their Sakaja Super Campaign on a winning note at the weekend with a commanding win over Makombora Bulls.
Dagoretti Santos, the club at which Oliech began his football career before going to France to play in the French top flight competition Ligue 1, wasted no time in seeing off their opponents to progress to the next level of the competition in the Dagoretti sub county pool C.
In Westlands, former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Kenyan Premier League side Kangemi All Stars started on a losing note after suffering a 3-2 loss to Royal Soccer at Kihumbuini grounds.
In Roysambu, Anthony Mwangi bagged a brace for Hebron to edge out Roysambu Sharks 3-2.
Mwangi netted in the 7th and 30th minutes before Titus Mungai netted the winning goal in the 80th while Geoffrey Onyango and Sam Oduor replied for Roysambu Sharks.
In Emabakasi East, Johnson Kalu and Robert Bukacho scored a goal each for Levites to edge Utawala Black Stars 2-1 as Westlife and Soweto Hope settled for a 1-1 stalemate in their tournament’s opening fixtures.
Jared Chingili scored for Westlife before Christopher Tete levelled the scores.
In Kamkunji, Eastleigh Youth and Easthleigh South to a a 1-1 draw. Hendrick Shivukule scored for Easthleigh South before Teddy Sirma equalised for a share of the spoils.
In another Kamkunji fixture, Kamaliza beat Walalah 3-2. Elvis Otieno, Ali Michu and Patrick Ndune were on target for Kamaliza as Ali Adifatah and Feisal Omar replied for the losers
In Embakasi North, Kariobangi FC pipped Dandora Youngsters 1 to start the Sakaja Super Cup positively.
Elsewhere, Jamhuri Bulls FC roared to an emphatic 8-3 victory over One Africa Logistics in a one-sided Left Foot Sports Social League fixture at Sikh Union Club Astro Turf.
Huzaifa Dawood opened the floodgate of goals with only nine minutes played before Boniface Misenge doubled Jamhuri’s lead in the 14th minute, this time Dawood turning the provider. In the 18th minute, Abdulrizak Mohamed struck home the third as Jamhuri took control of the game and they were 4-0 up before the half-time break when Fidel Ahusa drilled home from close range.
On resumption, Africa Logistics came back a more rejuvenated side and they reduced the deficit when Junior Moses capitalised on a defensive mistake by Jamhuri to find the back of the net. Francis Mwaura then scored the second to spark a comeback but Ahusa scored the fifth for Jamhuri, but his second of the day for the 5-2 lead.
James Orengo then scored the sixth to end any hopes of One Logistics getting something from the game before he sealed his brace with the seventh in the 67th minute.
Moses then scored the third for Logistic, his second of the day but Jamhuri were not done yet as Orengo powered home the seventh after a neat cross from Misenge to hand his side their biggest win in the league so far this season. In another Social league fixture, newcomers Gold and Green FC came from a goal down to defeat Abdulrahman Saad Advocates 5-3 in a nine-goal thriller.
Meanwhile, in the Corporate league, Amiran Kenya failed to utilise their chances as they settled for a 0-0 draw against Apec Consortium at the same venue.
