Tisap 7s: Nondies beat odds to win title Kabras, KCB stunned
Nondescripts managed to beat the odds and emerge as the winners for the Tisap 7s tournament after a 12-7 win over Strathmore Leons on Sunday, September 4, 2023, at Eldoret Sports Club.
A touchdown by Moses Begi and Daniel Okito’s conversion gave Nondies a 7-0 lead, but Strathmore fought back to restore parity with Andrew Matoka’s try, and Steve Osumba added two more points courtesy of his meticulous conversion.
The game went to sudden death when both teams failed to get a breakthrough in the second half.
Vital score
Charles Odhiambo scored for the Nondies to give them a 12-7 lead, and this came after Strathmore had missed open chances to go ahead. Odhiambo’s score was vital for his side, as it handed them an unlikely trophy.
The victory in Eldoret means Nondies join Kenya Cup heavyweights Kabras Sugar and KCB as the only sides this season to win a leg in the National 7s circuits.
Kabras, who were eliminated at the quarters, are the Driftwoods and Prinsloo winners, while KCB won Dala and Christie 7s.
Kabras, KCB stunned
Meanwhile, KCB were unable to progress to the penultimate stage after they were beaten 10-5 by the Menengai Oilers. Going into the Tisap 7s showdown, the Bankers were top-seeded and the favourites before they were stunned.
Kabras fell at the hands of Mwamba when they conceded a 19-5 defeat.
Apart from the shocking KCB and Kabras Sugar exits at the initial stages, Nondies stealthily booked a ticket in the semis after beating Kisumu 10-7, while Strathmore saw off Blak Blad 26-0 to book their place in the penultimate stage.

Initially, surprising results were registered when big guns were unable to come out of the group stage, as Nakuru RFC, Kenya Harlequin, and Homeboyz all exited the tournament at the preliminary stage.
KCB and Kabras will hope to right the wrongs when they take part in the last leg of the National 7s Circuit, the Kabeberi 7s.
Meanwhile, in the fifth-place duel, KCB were the victors after a 21-14 win over the Sugar Millers.
