NOCK elections: Shadrack Maluki elected new president
By Luke Oluoch, July 21, 2025Shadrack Maluki has been elected as the new president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) following the elections held this Monday, July 21, 2025, in Nairobi.
Maluki, from the Kenya Judo Federation, garnered 15 votes out of the 27 cast votes, beating his closest rival, Francis Mutuku, who came second with 15.
“Shadrack Maluki of the Kenya Judo Federation has been elected president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, securing 15 out of 27 votes.
Outgoing Secretary General Francis Mutuku garnered 12 votes,” a confirmation from NOCK read.
The outgoing first vice president, who ran under the ‘New Dawn’ team, will now succeed outgoing president Paul Tergat, who is exiting the hot seat after serving the stipulated maximum of two Olympic cycles.
Maluki’s election and a new office in place are expected to put to rest not only the controversy that has marred the body in the build-up to the elections but also his long-standing rivalry with the outgoing Secretary General, Mutuku.
The NOC-K elections have been called off twice, in April and June. April’s adjournment was occasioned by the fact that four affiliate federations had failed to agree on who would vote in the elections.
In June, the High Court in Eldoret suspended the elections. In a ruling delivered by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, the court said the polls stand suspended pending the hearing of an application by Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) chair Andrew Mudibo.
On the eve of the June election, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) ruled that Mudibo — who is vying for the Secretary General’s post — was irregularly nominated for the position, for reasons that his parent federation, KTTA, was not a duly registered sports organization under the Sports Act, 2013, as of the time of its participation in the NOC-K electoral process.
Meanwhile, the other 13 positions are set to be contested in the election. The positions include the first and second vice-president, secretary general, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, three executive committee members, one female representative and two athlete representatives.
Barnaba Korir and Anthony Ombok will contest the first vice-presidency, while Andrew Mudibo and John Ogola will vie for the secretary-general post.
