NCPB clinch 2025 Super Cup handball title in hard-fought victory
By Kenneth Mwenda, August 3, 2025National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) clinched the 2025 Super Cup handball title following a commanding campaign that culminated in a hard-fought 16–13 win over rivals Equity Handball Club in the final held at Kaloleni Grounds, Nairobi, on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The tournament brought together the country’s top six handball clubs, offering a stage for fierce competition and high-calibre action. NCPB, a consistent powerhouse in local handball, had earlier booked their place in the final after defeating a determined Ulinzi side 30–23 in the semifinals.
Despite a spirited second-half surge from Ulinzi, NCPB’s early dominance and tactical discipline proved decisive.
“Ulinzi are a very competitive side, but we were well prepared and stuck to our strategies. The players showed real commitment, especially our goalkeeper, who was outstanding,” said the NCPB coach after the semifinal triumph.
Equity battle against odds
On the other hand, Equity Handball Club entered the tournament on a high after a dominant showing in Rwanda, where they overcame top East African teams. Despite losing over eight key players, four to Rwandan clubs and three to injuries, Equity powered their way to the final, showcasing resilience and cohesion.
The final between NCPB and Equity lived up to expectations. NCPB took early control, but Equity mounted a strong comeback in the second half, narrowing the gap and threatening to overturn the result. However, NCPB held their nerve in the closing minutes to seal a narrow 16–13 victory and lift the title.
“Reaching the finals wasn’t expected by many, especially after our player losses, but the boys gave everything. It’s a strong motivation for the team moving forward,” said Equity coach Mwathi.
This year’s runners-up finish marks an improvement for Equity, who placed third last season. For NCPB, the title adds to their growing silverware collection, reaffirming their dominance in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league.
