Nationwide League set for thrilling climax with promotion, play-offs all to play for on final day

It promises to be an exciting final weekend with everything to play for on the final day of the Kenya Rugby UnionNationwide League regular season across all the five regions with promotion and playoffs berths on the line.

 In Western Region, only Sigalagala Institute (38 points) has secured their place in the semifinals playoffs. Seven other teams – Kibabii University and Bungoma RFC on 28 points, Maseno University (27 points), Citam Kisumu, Vihiga Granites, and Kisii RFC all on 25 points, and Border Rucks on 23 points – have all mathematical chances of qualifying.

 Borderrucks are set to host Siaya RFC, Kibabii University welcome Mbale, Bungoma visits Webuye, Granites face-off with Jaramogi University, Sigalagala Institute takes on CITAM Kisumu as Kisii square it with Maseno University in a winner-takes-all encounter.

 In Central region, three teams – Meru RFC, JKUAT both on 35 points and Zetech University on 34 points have sealed their place in the semifinals playoffs with three other teams; Kiambu RFC (27 points), Embu (24), and MKU Thika (23) – having all to play for in a bid to secure the remaining slot.

Coincidentally, all the three sides pushing for playoffs are all playing away where Kiambu will face off with already qualified JKUAT, Embu will play Kenya Prisons, as MKU Thika take on Laikipia University.

 At the Coast,  high-flying and former top-tier Kenya Cup side Mombasa RFC (43 points) alongside Technical University of Mombasa (TUM, 38 points), and Pwani University (20 points) have sealed their place in the last four leaving South Coast Buccaneers (15) and Malindi RFC (11 points) to battle for the sole slot remaining. SC Buccaneers will host Pwani University as Malindi take on bottom-placed Lukenya University.

 In Rift Valley, all the slots are sealed led by Kitale RFC (43 points), Moi University (39), Molo RFC 20), and Kitale Polytechnic (17) while Nakuru Kiti RFC (-9 points) and Nandi RFC (-18 points) have but exited the race. Kiti will be seeking to unseat Kitale Poly, Nandi eyeing Molo milk as Moi welcomes Kitale RFC.

 In Nairobi, that is divided into universities and clubs, categories has Daystar University (29 points) through to the semifinals, leaving Administration Police (24) and MKU Nairobi (19) battling for the remaining slot in the universities category while in the clubs’ category, Ngong RFC (28), Swara (24) and Dagoretti Bulldogs (23) have destiny in their hands as they all seek to grab the two slots allotted for the clubs’ sides.

Administration Police will confront the Technical University of Kenya, MKU Nairobi lock horns with Daystar Falcons, Ngong RFC will be challenging Swara RFC in a top of the clash encounter, while Dagoretti Bulldogs will be up against Stingers.

In the other matches to wrap up the season, Hurricanes are scheduled to meet with Cooperative University, Catholic Monks II engage KCA University, Masaku against Comras, and Stormers will be sporting Makueni RFC.
