With just four matches left in the 2024/25 National Super League (NSL) campaign, Nairobi United are on the verge of securing promotion to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The league leaders, who sit atop the standings with 63 points, will be eyeing a decisive win against 3K FC on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Dandora Stadium from 12:00 pm.

A victory over the Embu-based outfit will crown Nairobi United NSL champions and secure their automatic ticket to next season’s top-flight campaign.

United confident

Nairobi United head into the crucial clash in high spirits. Just a day before the match, the club shared training footage on their social media platforms showing players dancing with the coach, beaming with confidence.

“Who says you can’t mix fun with practice? We’re breaking the boredom barrier and turning training into a total blast. Join the fun tomorrow with 3K FC at Dandora Stadium,” the club posted.

Fans are expected to turn up in large numbers to witness what could be a historic day for the Nairobi-based side, whose campaign has been marked by consistency and resilience.

3K FC determined

Despite having little to lose, ninth-placed 3K FC are not ready to roll over for the league leaders. With 43 points, they have already secured their stay in the NSL next season, but pride and momentum are at stake.

Speaking to a local TV station, assistant coach Moses Munene said his side is looking to build on their 2-0 win over Mombasa United last weekend and upset Nairobi United’s party.

“We really want to end the season on a high. We managed to beat Mombasa United 2-0, a very technical and experienced side, after dominating them in both halves. Up next is Nairobi United, another strong side, but we will try to delay their title championship celebration,” Munene said.

Elsewhere in the NSL, Nzoia Sugar FC will host Kibera Black Stars at Sudi Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 pm.

As the NSL enters its final stretch, Friday’s result could be the defining moment of Nairobi United’s campaign. A win would not only earn them silverware but also see them compete among Kenya’s football elite next season.
