Nairobi United coach vows intense showdown against Gor Mahia in FKF Cup final
By Luke Oluoch, June 27, 2025Nairobi United FC head coach Nicholas Muyoti has remained bullish about his team’s chances ahead of a decisive final clash against Gor Mahia in the FKF Shield Cup this Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Muyoti, whose charges will be chasing a historic double in the cash after clinching promotion to the FKF Premier League by winning the National Super League (NSL) title, acknowledged their opponents’s superiority based on their history as one of Kenya’s elite football clubs.
Best in the country
He, however, stated that his team is geared for the clash and will leave everything on the pitch for the trophy.
“We are facing the team known as the best in Kenya. That history will not play for them; it is going to be 11 vs 11 on the pitch, and everyone is going to give their best. I told my boys that if we are going to play the cup, we want it to be ours, and we are owning it. Their mentality is already set that we are winning,” he stated.

The newly crowned NSL champions secured their cup final place with a 3-1 victory over fellow second-tier side Mara Sugar. They will face 21-time league winners Gor Mahia on Sunday, June 29th, 2025, at Nairobi’s Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Historic double
A triumph would complete a historic double: no second-tier team has achieved promotion and cup glory in the same season. It would also earn Nairobi United a ticket to represent Kenya in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
In their endeavor for a historic double, Muyoti’s team has further been boosted with the team handed a clean bill of health ahead of the clash.
“At the moment we are good; we had a few injuries here and there, but the few who were injured have recovered. We have a full squad, ready to play the final,” he declared
The FKF tie will see the club aiming to extend its fairy tale campaign. United’s journey in the cup competition has been one full of surprises and upsets, earning the team the tag of giant-killers. They stormed into the cup final by knocking out four top-flight clubs, including former league champions Tusker FC, KCB FC, and 2024 FKF Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz FC.
Speaking during a past interview, Skipper Isaac Ouma revealed that there has been no secret behind the team’s slaying of top league opponents, apart from belief.
“We have confidence in ourselves. We are a team that believes in ourselves and knows our capabilities. We have taken such a belief in our games, and along with the right motivation and hard work, we got here,” he told People Daily Digital Sports.
