Nairobi City Stars handed Sofapaka their fourth loss of the season, securing a 2-1 victory in Saturday’s early kick-off clash at Kasarani Annex.

Sofapaka, known as Batoto Ba Mungu, entered the match at the bottom of the league standings with only one point after suffering three consecutive losses.

Their season began with a 1-1 draw against Gor Mahia, and they had struggled to score, managing just two goals while conceding six.

Nairobi City Stars 1st win

The pressure was on Sofapaka as they faced Nairobi City Stars, a team that had recently ended their winless streak and was aiming for back-to-back wins.

The game saw an early attempt by Fiston Razak for Sofapaka, which was saved by City Stars’ goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe.

Simba wa Nairobi, on the other hand, wer forced into an early substitution due to an injury, with Calvins Masawa replacing Dennis Makati.

In the 32nd minute, Nairobi City Stars’ Captain Dennis Oalo made a crucial pass to Kelvin Etemesi, who beat the offside line and skillfully flicked the ball into the net, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

The team managed to maintain this slim lead until halftime.

In the second half, Sofapaka made triple substitutions, bringing in Jacob Osano, Humphrey Mieno, and Andre Kalama for Brent Omwena, Amos Asembeka, and Simon Abuko, respectively.

Nairobi City Stars concede and lead

Their efforts paid off in the 54th minute when Evans Maliachi scored with a header after a superb delivery from Oliver Maloba, levelling the score at 1-1.

However, City Stars quickly regained the lead five minutes later, with Vincent Owino finding the net from an Etemesi corner delivery. Etemesi played a crucial role in both of City Stars’ goals, scoring one and providing an assist.

The loss kept Sofapaka at the bottom of the league standings with just one point, while Nairobi City Stars climbed to fourth place.
