Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised APS Bomet FC after the Football Kenya Federation Premier League newbies shocked record champions Gor Mahia with a 4-1 win on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.

Murkomen, who also doubles as APS Bomet’s club patron, has described the crucial win for the newcomers as a testament to their strong mentality and potential. The side earned promotion to the Sportpesa League this season after recording an impressive run in the National Super League (NSL) in the previous campaign.

However, the outfit has been struggling in the league, the win against Gor Mahia is only second for the team in 11 rounds of the country’s top-tier football.

”APS Bomet’s 4–1 victory over Gor Mahia this afternoon is a testament to their strong mentality and potential. As Patron, I am immensely proud of the remarkable performance and commitment demonstrated by every player on that pitch. Congratulations to the entire squad. We celebrate this milestone as we continue forward with even greater focus,” Murkomen, who once led the Sports Ministry, took to X on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Dream start

Gor Mahia started brightly and drew first blood just five minutes into the contest through Ghanaian forward George Amonoo, who calmly found the back of the net to give the Charles Akonnor men an early advantage.

However, APS Bomet responded emphatically as Hansel Ochieng turned the game on its head with two quick goals in the 39th and 42nd minutes, sending his side into the break with a 2-1 lead. After the interval, APS Bomet maintained their dominance and extended their lead further with two late strikes in the 77th and 87th minutes, sealing an impressive and comprehensive victory over the record champions.

Crucial win for APS Bomet

The crucial win marked APS Bomet’s second triumph of the campaign and saw them climb off the bottom of the standings to second-from-last place with eight points, moving just one point clear of Kariobangi Sharks.

For Gor Mahia, the defeat reduces their momentum ahead of the Saturday, November 29, 2025, Mashemeji Derby, where K’Ogalo will lock horns with their eternal rivals, AFC Leopards, at the Nyayo National Stadium. The shocker also marked Gor Mahia’s second beating of the season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bidco United in their opening fixture in September.
