Muhoroni Youth frustrate AFC Leopards as Kakamega Homeboyz stun Tusker

Muhoroni Youth FC claimed a point after frustrating AFC Leopards to a 0-0 draw in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Kasarani Stadium.
The goalless draw means AFC Leopards are yet to pick up a win in the 2023/24 season and risk losing more ground against their leading rivals.
Chances
Meanwhile, Muhoroni, who had three penalty calls dismissed, could have scored early in the game, but Collins Neto could not make maximum use of his two chances.
Ingwe‘s first chance came in the 25th minute when Victor Otieno attempted to find the bottom corner from the edge of the box, but his powerful shot slightly went out.
Neto could not break the deadlock in the 38th minute after he was set through on goal by a pinpoint pass from the right wing. Kevin Kimani, too, has to blame himself after failing to put Leopards in the lead after squandering a 40th-minute free kick from a promising position.
Another chance for the 1998 Premier League champions came in the 57th minute following a counterattack, but Ezekiel Owade, in Muhoroni’s goal, made a vital block to stop Jaffari Owiti from scoring.
A further chance for the Tom Juma-led side came in the 67th minute when new signing Brian Yakhama missed a chance to plant the ball into the net, with Owade the only obstacle.
Tusker stunned
At Bukhungu Stadium, Tusker suffered their first loss after going down 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz.
As Brewers suffered the loss, it was a double joy for Homeboyz who registered their first win of the season in their first home game.
Before the international break, Homeboyz had only played one league game, which they lost away to Murang’a Seal.
Meanwhile, Ambrose Sifuna scored the opener for Homeboyz in the third minute, before the second one was scored by Harambee Stars forward Moses Shummah in the 18th minute.
Tusker’s goal was scored by Erick Zakayo in the 71st minute.
Elsewhere, Bandari managed a 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars, as Shabana and Kenya Police shared spoils from a 1-1 draw in their respective game.
Abdalla Hassan’s goal meant that Bandari were winners, as Ulinzi suffered their third straight loss of the season.
At Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, Kenya Police fought back to earn a point from a 1-1 draw against Tore Bobe.
After Peter Ongechi had given Shabana a lead late in the second half, the Law Enforcers snatched an equalizer in the added minutes to deny the home side a win.
Finally, Bidco United and Nzoia Sugar shared points following a one-all draw.
