Muguna: Harambee Stars midfielder signs for Police FC

By , July 7, 2023

Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna has completed a transfer move to Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Police FC.

He becomes the first signing after the law enforcers have confirmed this transfer window.

Muguna has been a free man since he parted ways with Tanzania Mainland Premier League side Azam FC in June. The former Palos FC star had been part of the Tanzanian club for the last two seasons.

Police ambitious drive

His signing is a continuation of an ambitious drive by Police who have been acquiring experienced players to help them become competitive in the Kenyan Premier League.

Muguna is an experienced player and a title winner with Gor Mahia, a side he captained before he left for Tanzania.

He has also played for Western Stima, now defunct, from where he signed for K’Ogalo. The attacking midfielder had a short stint in Europe, where he played for KF Tirana of Albania in 2018 before he returned to sign for Gor Mahia.

Together with his former teammate, Musa Mohamed, they were taken to Europe by Ze Maria, who was their coach during their time at the Premier League heavyweights. Mohamed and Muguna now reconnect at a different club.

There is expected to be stiff midfield competition at Police with the arrival of the former Gor Mahia skipper. Alvin Mang’eni, Francis, Kahata, Duke Abuya, Charles Ouma, Patillah Omoto, Lesley Owino, and Clifton Miheso are all midfielders at the Premier League club.

After completing the move, Muguna will hope to have a far more impressive campaign that will help him reclaim a spot in the national team, the Harambee Stars. He was not part of the Four-Nations squad to Mauritius, but he explained why he did not travel with the team in June.

Competition

The competition in the Harambee Stars is stiff, and any drop in his level might see him overlooked by coach Engin Firat. Firat has experimented with a number of midfielders, and given that he has options, players need to be very competitive.

A competitive side will also help Firat in his ambition to help Kenya qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup finals.
