Motorcycling poised for an exciting season
By Charles.Thuku, March 28, 2023The 2022 Annual Motorcycle Awards unfolded with a bang at Nairobi Polo Club with the motocross and enduro family predicting yet another season of adrenaline-packed action and innovation.
Julie Wahome, the Director of Beyond Sports at FIM Africa, underscored the need to strike the right chord by approaching motorcycling holistically.
This, she said, will create an enabling safe environment for motorcycling in the country to blossom and enhance their careers.
Just like the global motorcycling body FIM, Wahome says that the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK) is not just a sports federation but an organization that also strives to explore ‘Beyond Sports’ activities.
“We have seen a very close relationship working with the Women’s Bikers Association and we have been involved in a lot of community as well as road safety development programs.
We hope that we will be able to work together especially in the area of road safety development and safety for boda bodas around the country as well as growing the leisure and touring facet through bringing people into the country to just ride,” she explained.
MSFK has also witnessed a very close and fruitful relationship working with the Women’s Bikers Association.
Apart from the busy National Motocross and Enduro Championships which have captivated enthusiasts in so many years, Kenya also hopes to make its presence felt in the region and across the continent.
This year, Kenya will be hosting the FIM Central Africa Challenge (CAC) over Easter holidays, ahead of the return competition in Kampala later around December.
Any sporting encounter between Kenya and Uganda has over the years set tongues wagging and hearts pounding.
The famed CAC (the equivalent of Victoria Cup in golf and rugby’s Elgon Cup) is traditionally a gigantic fixture in the region.
