Motor Sports host special event in honour of women cyclers

By , March 19, 2022

East Africa Motor Sports Club will this Sunday host a special event, celebrating Women in Motorcycling, as the Championship enters Round 3 at the Jamhuri Race Track.

The exclusive ladies’ affair will see top riders battle in different classes barely a week after some of them were feted in the 2021 Awards by the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya. Reigning Ladies’ Rider of the Year Natalie Cherono will lead a star-studded cast that will include MX-85 riders Atete Benzinge and Zawadi Nyachae amongst others.

Other notable names are the likes of Ivanca Yongo, Kyla Blessing and Jematia Kangongo.

Interestingly, the whole affair will be an all-women show including the stewards, starters and time-keepers.

Speaking to People Sport last week after his election as the new chairman of the EAMSC, Maina Warithi told People Sport that it was important to appreciate the women in motocross more and such events were timely.

“This is essential in fact because it helps in attracting more talent in the sport. Last year we saw enormous interest but we need more girls coming through.
