Moses Wetang’ula: EAC legislative games deepen East African integration

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in Kampala, Uganda, Wetang’ula joined counterparts for a breakfast meeting hosted by the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Anita Among, on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Wetang’ula highlighted that the annual EAC Games are not merely a sporting competition but a vital platform for strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering unity among regional lawmakers.
”These games represent more than a sporting contest as they provide a vital platform that brings together legislators from across the region, united in our resolve to strengthen, advance and deepen East African integration,” Wetang’ula took to X.
The meeting paid tribute to the founding leaders whose foresight laid the foundation upon which the modern EAC stands. Wetang’ula noted that the Community continues to benefit from the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other architects of integration whose influence has shaped the bloc into a dynamic regional powerhouse.

Moses Wetang’ula further stated that their unwavering dedication has been instrumental in transforming the EAC into one of Africa’s most ambitious and promising regional communities.
”Their commitment has been instrumental in shaping the East African Community into the dynamic and promising bloc it has become,” he added.
Shared prosperity
Wetang’ula also reaffirmed the central role of cooperation among the region’s Parliaments, stressing that the EAC’s aspirations of prosperity and stability can only be achieved through collective effort.
”Working together remains our surest path to shared prosperity and regional stability, and I look forward to continued collaboration with my fellow EAC Speakers and Parliaments.” He said.
The Kenyan Speaker further pledged Kenya’s continued support for strengthening parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for accelerating integration and improving the lives of East Africans.
The 15th EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games are currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda, running from Friday, December 5 to Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The annual event aims to promote regional integration and cooperation among the parliaments of the East African Community (EAC) partner states. The EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games (IPG) were established by a resolution of the 4th EAC Bureau of Speakers in 2009.
